Our promise

What we mean by eco-friendly

A word on a label is worth nothing without the detail behind it. Here is ours, including the parts we have not solved.

What earns the label

An item carries our eco-friendly label when all of the following are true. Nothing gets it for being generally worthy.

  • Made of paper, card, wood or bamboo. No plastic in the item itself.
  • No plastic wrapping. Not on the item, not in the parcel.
  • Meant to be kept or used up, rather than thrown away at the end of the party.

A party bag carries the label when the bag and everything in it would each earn it on their own. One plastic filler and the label comes off, so a labelled bag never has a plastic toy in it by default. Swap one in yourself and you have of course changed what is in the bag.

How everything is packed

Every order, labelled or not, goes out in paper and card sealed with paper tape, so the whole parcel can go in your recycling. We reuse boxes where they are clean and sound, so yours may have had a previous life.

Where we are not there yet

Our 3D printed items are PLA. PLA is made from plant starch rather than crude oil, but it is still a plastic: it will not break down in a home compost heap and it cannot go in your kerbside recycling. Those items do not carry the label. What we do instead is take them back and reprocess them into new prints.

Most of the party bag fillers are bought in from UK wholesalers. We choose the paper and wood ones, but we did not make them and we do not audit their factories. Where an item is made or finished by us, it says so.

What we will not claim

We do not call anything biodegradable or compostable, because for most of what we sell that would be untrue, and for PLA it is only true in an industrial composter. We would rather be specific about materials than reach for a word that sounds better than it is.
